When you start a new game, especially in sim racing, there is a lot to adjust: from assigning your steering wheel, pedals and shifters, to configuring the buttons you will use.
After going through the tutorial, registering as diver, and choosing your first car, the game will ask you to configure your settings before running your test drive, and that’s where the magic starts!
Make sure that your Fanatec gear is turned on, choose the “controls” option and, on the top-right, select your Fanatec hardware, you might have to assign each control individually, like steering left and right, gas, brake and so on.
One thing to consider, is that if you have your Fanatec pedals connected directly to your Windows-PC, these will appear as a separate control, and you must assign them there to avoid conflict with other commands. Also check all the inputs, especially your pedals and handbrake, to make sure that the axis are not inverted, this is easily perceptible on the left-hand side.
If you want to get the extra step in configuration, you can assign all the buttons in your ClubSport Formula Steering Wheel V2.5,
like assigning the thumb encoders to increase or reduce ABS settings and traction control, which help prevent wheel spin or lockup respectively, so you can be more efficient and safer around the track.
Other options include assigning the pit limiter, wipers, and flash headlights to the buttons available on the steering wheel, the analogue joystick to control the mouse, and the 7-way Funky Switch to move the camera around, so you can look left and right.
There are two 2-way toggle switches that you can also assign to rotate through performance modes or display options which are helpful to provide you with insights about the various circumstances in the race.
If you own a Fanatec ClubSport Shifter SQ V1.5, and want to take the legacy manual cars for a ride on the best experience possible, you also have the option to assign each gear individually; the game allows you to set up to 9 forward gears and 1 reverse, but you won’t need to assign all of them.
When it comes to configure all buttons, it all depends on a personal preference. Of course you can try to replicate what real life drivers use, but you must also consider using something that fits your style.
