What to Buy First in Gran Turismo

Gran Turismo 7 is one of the most iconic racing titles of all time. Whether you are into circuit racing or not, it was likely part of your life at some point, or at the very least, you've heard about it!

Knowing where and how to start investing in the game is quite straightforward. Unlike some other racing games, you don’t need to purchase tracks, which makes financial planning in GT7 a bit easier. However, making the right choices early on can help you progress faster and enjoy the game to its fullest.

Gran Turismo 7 Garage

Your first car choice

At the beginning of the game, you are given three options to choose from at the Used Car Dealership:

  • Honda Fit Hybrid
  • Toyota Aqua
  • Mazda Demio XD Touring

While the choice is important, you will eventually earn the remaining two cars as you progress through your career. That said, some players prefer to start with the Mazda Demio XD Touring, as it has decent handling and efficiency in early races. However, all three cars are relatively similar in performance, so your decision won’t have a major impact on your long-term gameplay.

Earning and managing credits

As you complete races, you will earn credits (the in-game currency), along with new cars as rewards. These prize cars can be:

  • Kept and used for upcoming races
  • Sold for additional credits if you don’t plan on using them
  • Added to your collection if you enjoy having a large garage

Your approach depends on your playstyle: do you want to collect every car, or focus on acquiring the fastest ones as soon as possible?

Gran Turismo 7 - Buying options

What to buy next?

Once you've settled into the game, here are some smart purchases to prioritize:

  1. License tests
Before spending too much on cars, focus on completing License Tests. These not only improve your driving skills but also reward you with new vehicles upon completion.

  2. Upgrades for your first car
Instead of rushing to buy an expensive new car, consider upgrading your starter vehicle with:
    - Sports tires for better grip
    - Weight reduction to improve handling
    - Power upgrades like air filters or exhaust systems for extra speed
These minor improvements can help you win early races more easily without draining your credits.

  3. A versatile car for multiple events
As you progress, you’ll need a well-rounded vehicle that can compete in different races. A good early-game purchase is the Toyota GR86 or the Mazda RX-7, as they perform well in multiple racing categories without requiring excessive modifications.

What about the legendary cars?

While it may be tempting to save up for legendary vehicles like the McLaren F1 or Ferrari F40, they are very expensive early on. It’s best to wait until you’ve built a stable income through regular racing before investing in these collector’s items.
