Sim drifting, just like any other driving style, requires a lot of precision and technique, for that there are a lot of things to consider, especially considering over steer control, which is a crucial part of drifting.
You will need 5 main components to ensure that you can drift properly:
Pedals – The ClubSport Pedals V3 inverted are surely the ideal choice, as they feature the same pedal layout as most cars used in drifting (clutch and brake hanging from above, and gas pedal pivoting from the bottom).
Shifter – Most beginner drifting cars feature a h-pattern manual gearbox, like the Toyota Corolla AE86 or the BMW E36, so the ClubSport Shifter SQ V1.5 is surely the best option for you, as it features 7 forward gears, plus 1 reverse.
Handbrake – As I am sure you know by now, the handbrake also plays a crucial role in drifting, as explained in our other article “How to use a Handbrake in Rally and Drift”, so acquiring a ClubSport Handbrake V2 is surely a must, if you want to get the best out of your technique.
Steering Wheel – Preferably a round, slightly wide rim with a deep dish design, the ClubSport Steering Wheel Drift V2 is definitely a great choice, due to its 320mm genuine leather rim, ensuring a comfortable yet reliable grip, so you can counter steer with confidence!
Wheel Base – This is where the magic happens, you should reduce the Damper Effect Strenght significantly, and raise all other settings on your Fanatec’s Control Panel or the Fanatec App, this is to ensure that you are feeling all the curial aspects of both the car and track, so you can always keep focus. The CSL DD QR2 (8Nm) is a great piece of hardware to start your sim drifting journey with Fanatec.
Cockpit – while drifting, you need to ensure that you are securely seated, and that you don’t move around when turning, as this will offset your body and surely cause you to lose control at some point. You also need to adjust your positioning to be able to react fast and avoid stretching or crimping too much.
The ClubSport GT Cockpit features all the modularity you need including seat reclining and wheel base sliding, it also offers the possibility to mount your shifter and handbrake on either side, so you can adjust it to your personal preferences.
Additionally, the ClubSport GT Cockpit’s Seat is a bucket seat, which means that you will be cradled securely at all times during your sessions, just like in real-world racing cars.
